• We’re still looking for a Joint Pasta Dinner Host on January 29th. 5:30-6:30. Volunteers supply all the food! Check the website under the pasta dinner tab to sign up to bring something. Email Mandy Germishuys: themadgerms@gmail.com if you can host.

• If you haven’t given Becca your $600 please do ASAP. Checks should be made out to Staples Ski Team and handed directly to Becca. Do not leave on her door.

• Race #2 is tomorrow! Hope to see many of you at the mountain. Race begins at 4:40. Please see Katherine Skinner if you want to buy a CAR MAGNET! They’re great looking and only $5. She’ll be at the bottom of the hill with a big stack 🙂

Due to the snow conditions at Southington, the league has decided to postpone this weeks races.  Once the rescheduled date is set, it will be reflected on the calendar. HOWEVER THE PASTA DINNER TONIGHT IS STILL ON!

If anyone needs to get their equipment out of the locker, it will be opened this afternoon (after exams) and tomorrow afternoon (at the end of the day). If those times don’t work, please contact me.

Tomorrow is the first pasta dinner of the season! Both are from 5:30-6:30pm.

The girls will be at the Skinner Home: 9 Plunkett Place

The boys will be at the Leshem Home: 37 Hermit Lane

It was a terrific start to the season last night! 

Girls Varsity and JV had a strong opening. They both finished second to Fairfield. 

Boys Varsity and JV took 1st place. The varsity boys edged out Greenwich by .74 seconds and the JV squad crushed Fairfield by 16.42 seconds! 

GREAT JOB RACERS!

For those new to HS racing: Our League is divided into two conferences, “S” and “L” this is done according to school enrollment.  Staples is “L”

Each varsity team is composed of ten skiers. Of those ten, six skiers must finish both runs to qualify for any given race.  Additional racers on a team (#’s 11 and up) will be considered J.V. and compete for individual and J.V. team placement. (A minimum of four J.V. racers is necessary to qualify a J.V. team in any race.)

Each skier takes two timed runs on designated course(s) those time are added together for a total time.

The 6 fastest two-run individual times on each varsity team are added to calculate team total time.  Team total time is then compared against their competitor(s) for win or loss.  Teams must race a minimum of five team races to qualify for team championships.

Regular season conference championships are determined by final team records within each conference. For those viewing at mountain or following on live timing: 

Girls V ski Red first, Green second; Girls JV ski Green first, Red second 

Boys V ski Blue first, Yellow second; Boys JV ski Yellow first, Blue second

**Our pasta dinners have been scheduled. All details are under the Pasta Dinner tab. Please sign up to volunteer to bring an item. We are also looking for a host for our joint dinner on 1/29 and the girl’s dinner on 2/5. Thanks!

The roster has been posted, sorry for the delay.  Thank you to everyone who tried out.  If you did not make the team this year, please don’t get discouraged.  Use the season to work on developing your skills and we hope to see you again next season.

Due to changes to our racing schedule, we will be having time trials on MONDAY, not Tuesday. Sorry for the late notice but we needed to make sure that Southington and Dattco could accommodate. The updated calendar and practice schedule has been posted. Please plan on meeting in the pool lobby at 7 am on Monday morning to load in.  The locker door will be closed at 7:15.

We will be heading to Mount Snow this weekend for our annual- get your ski legs trip. We will leave Staples at 4:45 am on Saturday and return around 8.

Prices are:

Bus ride back and lift pass $145

Bus ride- one way $60

Bus ride- both ways $110

Just a lift pass- $35

Please make checks out to Staples Ski Team.  We will know as of the end of practice tomorrow if the trip is on or not.

If you were not able to attend the informational meeting or did not get a forms packet, please bring the below to practice tomorrow.  We will be meeting in the pool lobby for the first day of Dryland.
