HAPPY NEW YEAR!

We hope everyone had a wonderful break and wanted to send along the reminder that we will be holding Time Trials on Monday, January 6th. Racers trying out for the team will have access to the Ski Locker from 7:35-7:55 on Monday morning in the Field House. Please bring your skis (IN SKI BAGS) and your ski gear bag during this time. Racers will need to submit a $45 check to cover the cost of try outs. Checks should be made out to Staples High School with racer’s last name and Ski Try Out 25 noted in the memo. Checks should be turn into the envelope outside of room 3061 (across from the math department on the 3rd floor).

Racers will have an early dismissal on Monday at 2 pm.

Racers trying out for the ski team will have the opportunity to have some practice time on the hill on Wednesday 12/18. Time trials have been set for Monday 1/6 after we return from break.

Those participating in Wednesday’s gate training will need to bring in a $45 check made out to Staples High School with the following note in the memo: Racer last name Practice 12/18.

Ski locker will be open tomorrow morning from 7:40 to 7:55, racers can enter through the pool lobby. ALL skis should be in ski bags.

Mt. Southington announced today that they will be open for training and time trials this week. Assuming that the school is able to arrange transportation to/from the mountain, we intend to have a training session on Wednesday 12/18 and time trials on Thursday 12/19. We will know the final schedule by tomorrow afternoon.

Please RSVP in Student Square as soon as possible if you plan to attend practice and time trials.  

In the meantime, please make sure that you have completed the Southington forms (posted on Google classroom) so that you are allowed on the mountain.

Remember that all racers must wear FIS-Approved, hard-ear helmet for time trials and all races. There are a few to borrow for time trials, if any racer does not have one. Please reach out to the coaches or the captains if you have any questions about equipment. On practice and race days, ski equipment can be brought to the ski locker in the pool lobby before school for storage.

There will be NO DRYLAND PRACTICE on Monday, 12/16.

We are waiting to see if Southington will be able to set gates this week. It does not look promising given the predicted rain and temperatures on Monday and Tuesday. Check back for updates.

The temps are starting to dip and ski season is almost here!  

The Staples Ski Team will hold our Informational Meeting on Thursday, December 5th at 7:30 pm in the school library.   

Join us and find out why our team is so special. Our captains will let you know what our season is like and answer any questions you may have.  Winter Registration is still open so if you are interested and have not registered you still have time!

LET IT SNOW!!!

TODAY IS THE DAY- the official start to Staples Ski Team 2025 season. We will meet in the pool lobby at 3:15. Dryland practices run Monday -Thursday from 3:15-4:30 (Dec 2- Dec 19) Mt. Southington is already BLOWING SNOW- so there is the chance we will be on snow before the December break! We will update you regarding that as we know more this week.

The soft opening for the 2025 season will be Monday 11/18 with CAPTAINS PRACTICES starting at 3:15. We encourage any racer who is interested in joining the team to come by the Pool Lobby at 3 to meet our captains and our fantastic members for a pre-season workout.

The Norwalk Inn was full of smiles last night as we said farewell to the 2024 season. The senior Captains’ speeches summed up what a unique and special experience Staples Ski Team is, plus what FUN they have 😃 There are many to congratulate & thank.

Congratulations to Jake Coykendall who is the 3rd recipient of the, Corey Hausman Award: Presented annually to the senior alpine racer who best epitomizes Corey’s special spirit with a love for skiing, the desire to improve, a willingness to work and the ability to inspire others.

*For those of you who read these posts and were at the banquet last night…thank you! It’s been a wonderful ride for the Howard Family and I’ve loved it all–cheering on race day, creating BIG heads, making the best pasta JC has ever had 😉, putting out the sandwich board (& having a Howard boy forget to pick it up after the race!), writing these posts & promoting all things about this great team. The Wreckers ended their season Thursday with some hardware 🥈🥉 Congrats to the GIRLS TEAM who took 4th at the State Race and came in 3rd overall for the season. The BOYS TEAM was awarded medals as well for their 2nd place overall season award. Well done racers 👏🏻
