STAPLES SKI TEAM

After a not-so-ideal start for our season, we were able to have time trials last night. Andrew, Tom and I are happy to announce the members of this year’s team:

Hi everyone! We will be able to have a practice day tomorrow, Thursday 1/5!!!

So Thursday 1/4-  will be a practice night at Southington

Our ski locker is located in the field house near the pool lobby entrance. Please arrive at 7:35 as we will load skis and bags into the closet. The locker closes at 7:50 so that everyone (including me) can get to class on time.

We will be leaving school at 3:15. I am double-checking who turned in checks by noon today. So please check your school email for confirmation that you have a seat for tomorrow.  If I did not receive a check from you today in the envelope outside room 3061 (and you have not alerted me as to why) you may not be able to practice tomorrow as we have a limited number of seats due to transportation issues.

Friday- day off

Time Trials will be held on MONDAY January 9th

Please bring in a check made out to Staples High School for $45 with Ski Team- time trials noted in the memo. Checks will be collected in the envelope in Room 3061 and are due by noon 1/6.

This week is soggy and Southington has already announced that they will be closed on 1/3 AND 1/4.  The hope is that we will be able to have a practice day on Thursday 1/5- but that will be dependent upon how things go in the next 48 hours.

So here is the UPDATED plan (as of 1/3 at 2:45 pm)

Tuesday- no conditioning, but please start getting ready for your exams. Bring in your check for practice which will hopefully be held on Wednesday.

Wednesday–  there will not be practice at the hill but we will hold a classroom practice to review how to go through a course for anyone who is new to racing or wants a refresher.

Thursday–  we are planning on holding a practice night at Southington. However, they may be closed due to the warm weather and anticipated rain.  If we do have practice, we will be leaving school at 3:15.

Friday- day off

Unfortunately, weather-wise things are not looking promising this week.  This week is looking soggy and Southington has already announced that they will be closed 1/3.  The hope is that we will be able to have a practice day on Wednesday 1/4 and possibly hold time trials on Thursday 1/5- but that will be dependent upon how things go in the next 48 hours.

So here is the plan (as of this post)- be sure to check back, check the Google Classroom and contact the captains if you have any questions.

Thursday– Thursday will be our backup practice day if we cannot practice on Wednesday.  If we practice Wednesday, and Southington is open, Thursday will be Time Trials.

REMINDER: Tomorrow, Thursday December 1 is the first dryland training of the season.

Please meet in the pool lobby right after school.

We know people have questions, including how to fill out forms.

Becca will review forms and answer other questions at tomorrow’s practice.

The Norwalk Inn was full of smiles last night as we said farewell to the 2022 season. The senior Captains’ speeches summed up the feeling of ski team family and fun perfectly! There are many to congratulate & thank.

Congratulations to Olivia Marshall who received the first ever, Corey Hausman Award: Presented annually to the senior alpine racer who best epitomizes Corey’s special spirit with a love for skiing, the desire to improve, a willingness to work and the ability to inspire others.
